About Our Program

Our three-day course has been designed to assist tree care professionals and other professionals who wish to become ISA Certified Arborists and will be led by our new top-notch instructor, Dr. Susan Day.  Susan is Professor Emerita in Virginia Tech's Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation and an internationally recognized expert in urban forestry and urban soils.  Susan serves on the ISA Board of Directors and received the ISA's 2017 L.C. Chadwick Award for Arboricultural Research.  She holds degrees from Yale University, Cornell University, and Virginia Tech.

Our course has been developed to help prepare individuals for the ISA certified arborist exam, which is scheduled the day after the course.  The course content is consistent with the Arborists' Certification Study Guide (Fourth edition) and the domains of the exam.  Registration is first come, first served, and space is limited.

The course will take place at Wetlands Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI) located in Richmond, VA.

There will be an in-person exam following the course on December 4th.  NOTE that the exam is not included in the course fee, and you must apply to take the exam directly through ISA HERE before you can enroll.  ISA's  processing time on exam applications is approximately 5 business days and application approval is required prior to being able to enroll for any exam (in-person or computer based via Pearson Vue facility).

Due to high demand for MAC-ISA Certified Arborist courses, priority will be given to those who are not currently ISA Certified Arborists.  Pending space availability, course registration will be open to current ISA Certified Arborists two weeks prior to the course start date.  If you are an ISA Certified Arborist and would like to be added to the course waitlist, please email [email protected]

Recommended publications to supplement the prep course:  Arborists' Certification Study Guide (Fourth Edition) in English can be included within your registration.  There is also a Spanish version of the Guide available for purchase on the ISA Website Store if you prefer.  Additional recommendations that can also be purchased through the ISA Website Store:  BMP's and Z133.1 Safety Standards.
